Designing a social streaming mobile app for athletes
Content Discovery
Showcase athletes bringing their stories front and center
Our direction was to showcase athletes and position their stories (shows) in the spotlight. To achieve this, we designed the UI to be minimal, lightweight, and flexible; opting for a neutral, dark experience that pushes the content forward.
Athlete Channels
Athletes are the content creators and publishers
The design effort for launching athlete’s channels was to provide athletes with a centralized hub that will be more akin to streaming channels than a social feed. Users would be able to browse the content when discovering athletes but have a gated paywall upon launching locked streams and shows after a quick preview.
Shows and Challenges
We aimed to design a platform that inspired better storytelling. What if we could not only ease the friction behind content creation but take it further by unlocking compelling narratives for an athlete’s stories? This was the idea behind structuring shows and challenges to unlock an Athlete’s story and bring it to life. My belief was that through great first-person narratives, our platform would distinguish itself from other social platforms, galvanize fans, creating more monetizable moments.
Live and On-demand Streaming
Live shows were the cornerstone of the platform. With that, we needed to design an experience that would handle the lofty scope of functionality we envisioned. The UI needed to be lightweight, simple for fans to use, and consistently minimal so it wouldn’t disrupt the show content.
